Sean Lane, Chairman of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Board of Directors, commended and thanked The Knights of St. Patrick for their 30 years of support for the parade, support which totals more than $1.5 million. The Knights mark their 30th anniversary this year.
“On behalf of the Parade Board of Directors and all Irish-Americans, I congratulate the dedicated members of The Knights of St. Patrick on celebrating 30 years of strong support for the Parade,” Lane said. “In that time, The Knights have donated over $1.5 million to us. We are very thankful for their generosity.”
“The Knights of St. Patrick were formed in October, 1988. The mission was to help the St. Patrick’s Day Parade financially and it’s still the primary reason for their existence,” said Knights Chairman Gene McCarthy.
“We are proud to play our part in supporting the largest and greatest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world.”
The Knights count many prominent people in the Irish American community among their current membership, including four former parade Grand Marshals, John Lahey, Francis X. Comerford, Tommy Smyth and Michael J. Gibbons.
