This is the 11th appearance for the Brewster HS Marching Band in the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade™.
Since 2008 the band has marched every year, with the one exception being in 2013, when the group instead traveled to Ireland to participate in the Dublin and Limerick Parades.
The Brewster HS Marching Band also performed for the following parades:
- Philadelphia Saint Patrick’s Day Parade
- On the deck of the USS Intrepid
- Edison Pageant of Light Parade in Fort Meyers, Florida
- Walt Disney World
- Busch Gardens
- Canada’s Wonderland
- Shea Stadium/Citi Field
- On the Today Show
This year the band was asked to be the official pep band for the Legends Classic NCAA Basketball Tournament, hosted at the Barclay’s Center.
In addition to performing, the band gets involved in the community as well. They have been honored by the American Heart Association, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for its philanthropic appearances on behalf of these organizations. Last year the marching band performed in a concert to benefit the hurricane victims of Puerto Rico and started the Relay for Life in Brewster, benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The marching band is under the direction of Brian Sanyshyn and Andrea Perdicho, and has about 70 student players/marchers. The color guard is directed by Katie Parapugna.
Leading the Brewster HS Band today are Drum Majors Rhiana and Eliza Pattie, as well as Color Guard Captain Sarah Borsari. This year, the band will be playing the music of John Williams and will include selections from Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones.
Fast forward to the 5:45 minute/second mark to see the band in action last year.
