Richmond County Aide to the Grand Marshal
Jack King is the youngest son of four children born to Helen and Edward King in Brooklyn, NY. His family roots extend to Ireland and his ancestors immigrated to the United States in or around 1861. Jack attended St. Gregory’s school in Brooklyn, PS 8 and New Dorp High School on Staten Island. In 1960 Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the 2nd and 3rd Marine Divisions where he achieved the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, Jack worked in construction before entering the NYC Police Department in 1973. Jack retired from the NYPD in 1993 with the rank of Detective. During his service with the NYPD, Jack was the recipient of over a dozen commendations, including two Chief of Detectives awards, for his outstanding service in the department. Jack is presently employed at Staten Island University Hospital. Jack King has been an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Saint Columcille Division Four since 1999 and has held multiple positions within the Division including President. He has served as a Director and President of the Columcille Irish Cultural Center and Chairperson of the Staten Island Irish Fair. He was the Drum Major of the Staten Island Pipes and Drums and Director and President of the Richmond County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. In 2005, he was selected Irishmen of the Year by the Columcille Irish Cultural Center. In 2009 he was awarded the Commodore John Barry Medal for his service to the AOH and the Irish American community. In 2011 he was honored as Aide to the Grand Marshal for the Richmond County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Additionally, he received the Four Chaplains Award for his charitable works in the community. Jack became a member of the Marine Corps League in 2005 and has been the Chaplain of the Department of New York and the Staten Island Detachment. Jack is a Life Member of the Marine Corps League, and Pound Keeper of the Military Order of Devil Dogs. He is also a Life Member of the Catholic War Veterans, and a member of the American Legion and the NYPD Emerald Society. Jack King is a long-time parishioner of Our Lady Help of Christians, Tottenville, Staten Island, where he has served as the President of the Men’s Club for over 10 years and helped with numerous activities in support of the parish. Jack is a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He is married to Nancy Sindle from Rossville, Staten Island and they have three children Sean, Shanna, and Noel. Jack’s daughter, Shanna, passed away in 1999.
