Suffolk County Aide to the Grand Marshal
James “Jimmy” Walsh is the oldest son of Margaret Ryan and John Walsh of Urard, Gortnahoe, County Tipperary. He worked on the family farm before immigrating to the USA in 1958. Jimmy is retired from the Town of Islip and is a founding member of Ancient Order of Hibernians Division, Our Lady of Knock. James Walsh has served the division in many different offices including president of the division in 1980 and 1981. James was selected Hibernian of the year by Division Seven, is a life member of the AOH and in 1982 he was the Grand Marshal of the annual East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade. James Walsh is a charter member of the Roisin Dubh Irish Pipe Band and has organized and chaired numerous benefits and charitable functions contributing to Irish culture and GAA games. In 2010, Division 7 honored him by naming their ballroom the James J. Walsh Room. James Walsh is an active parishioner in the Church of St. Mary in East Islip. He is married to Alicia Fitzpatrick from County Monaghan. They have four children — Sean, Maureen, James and Kerry (Brian), and two grandchildren, Brian and Jack.
