Kings County Aide to the Grand Marshal
Virginia “Gina” Sheehan was born and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Her parents were Mary “Molly” Barry and Jeremiah Sheehan from County Cork. Virginia attended St. Anthony of Padua School and St. Joseph High School. Virginia Sheehan worked at Western Electric and 33 years later retired from Lucent Technologies. Virginia joined the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division Six in Greenpoint in 1976. As a member she has served in several offices including Catholic Action, Missions & Charities, Historian and Sentinel. In 2001 she was acknowledged by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians New York State Board for her extensive charity work. Virginia was one of the original volunteers at the New York Irish Immigration Center working with Fr. Column Campbell and also volunteers at the Great Irish Fairs in Brooklyn. Virginia Sheehan is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Don Bosco Counseling Center and the American Legion, St. Stan’s Post in Greenpoint. She is a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a group of telephone retirees who do charity work in the community and every year around Christmastime, Virginia visits the St. Rose’s Home in NYC, a home for end-stage cancer patients. Virginia’s love of Irish History has resulted in many trips to Ireland as well as her engagement in projects on Irish history at local libraries.
