Kings County Aide: Bernard J. Cassidy
Bernard (Barney) Cassidy, one of six siblings born in Brooklyn to Bernard John Cassidy and Elizabeth Marie (neeSloan). Bernard Cassidy traces his Irish heritage through his grandparents who hailed from Counties Down and Dublin. Bernard attended Holy Cross Elementary School, Bishop Ford High School, and Brooklyn College. Barney joined the N.Y.C. Department of Correction in 1978 following his father Barney Sr who retired as Captain in 1981.
He enjoyed a successful career and after 20 years of service retired as an Assistant Deputy Warden from Rikers Island in 1978.
He was a member of N.Y.C. Correction Department Emerald Society and was elected President in 1995. He was honored as the Society’s “Irishmen of the Year” in 1998. After retiring from the Department, Barney founded and operated Shamrock Computers (1998 – 2016). Barney coached soccer in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Soccer League, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for ten years and served as their President for two years. He also coached the Bishop Ford Catholic High School varsity soccer team for 16 years. Barney is an active member of the A.O.H. John T. Rogan Division #12 in Brooklyn where he was President for 7 years and served on the A.O.H. Kings County Board for 8 years.
Barney resides in Breezy Point and is an active member of the Rockaway Point Association serving on their Board for ten years and has also served on the Cooperative Board of Directors for twelve years.
Barney married his wife Theresa (Terri) Garvey in 1974, and they are the proud parents of Brian, Kathleen, and Jimmy and are blessed with five grandchildren: Andrew, Ryan, Lauren, Michael, and James.
