Grand Council of United Emerald Societies Aide: Thomas B. Farrell
Thomas B. Farrell was born in Brooklyn, NY on Oct 18, 1968 to Thomas C. and Parthia Farrell. He was raised in Queens, NY and attended the NYC Public School System.
Tommy is the Past President of the New York Correction Department Emerald Society and the former Legislative Chairman of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association (COBA).
Tommy entered the New York City Correction Department Academy in March of 1989 at the tender age of twenty and joined the Emerald Society. Tommy is very proud of his Irish heritage and later became the Society’s Financial Secretary, 2nd Vice President and its 14th President.
Tommy was the Legislative Chairman of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association for 12 years until his retirement in July of 2018. As the COBA Legislative Chairman, he was in charge of all legislative affairs of 25,000 active and retired Correction Officers. Tommy was very successful in passing legislation to improve the lives of all the uniformed members of the New York Correction Department. In 2017 Tommy was recognized as a leading Irish American labor leader by The Irish Echo with its “Leader in Labor Award”.
In recognition of Tommy’s 29 years of service to the City of New York, the NYCD Emerald Society and the Correction Officers Benevolent Association, the Grand Council has selected him to serve as our Aide to Grand Marshal for 2019 New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
Tommy currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the NYCD Emerald Society and as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Helen’s RC Church of Howard Beach, NY.
