United Irish Counties: Thomas J. Maguire
Thomas Maguire was born in Glangevlin, Co. Cavan, Ireland and is the youngest son of Pat and Rose Ann Maguire. He received his early education in Curratavey, National School in Glangevlin and later at St. Patrick’s College, Cavan. Thomas worked in London for a few years before immigrating to New York in 1971. He joined the staff of 580 Fifth Avenue in 1972 and worked there for forty years. During his career at 580 Fifth Avenue, he served as Shop Steward for Local 32B enabling him to help many of his fellow employees.
Tom is a member of the Cavan P & B Association and a delegate to the United Irish Counties Association of New York for the Association. Over the years, Thomas served as a Trustee and a member of the Board of Directors with the County Cavan Association and in 2016, Tom and his wife Bridget were the Guests of Honor at the Cavan Association dinner dance. Every year Tom dedicates time in the organizing and execution of the UICA annual Feis.
Tom married his wife Bridget in 1974 and they are the proud parents of Breege, Thomas and Sean, and grandparents to Shane, Connor, Dylan, and Vivian. They have resided in Woodside for 46 years and are parishioners of St. Sebastian’s where Tom has been an usher for 26 years.
