Jack served as Co-Chair of the Task Force on Public Benefit Agreements which was part of the NYC Comptroller’s commitment to examine City development deals that feature specific promises of affordable housing and job creation. Jack Ahern was at the forefront in urging Congress to pass an affordable health care and to pass the Employee Free Choice Act to give workers the freedom to join unions without employer interference.
Jack urged Congress to pass a 9/11 health monitoring and compensation plan to provide medical monitoring and treatment benefits to emergency responders and recovery and cleanup workers who responded to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Jack has been recognized by many organizations over the years. In 2000, Jack was the Grand Marshal of the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade, an honor he was proud to accept again in 2013 because he felt it was important to be part of the revitalization of the Rockaway community after Hurricane Sandy.
The Cork Association honored Jack in 2009 as their Guest of Honor and in 2011 Jack was an honored guest of the NYC St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee at their 250th anniversary dinner. Jack Ahern serves on the Board of the Emerald Isle Immigration Association and was recognized at their 2011 Annual Dinner for his support of the Association and immigration. In 2012 Jack was recognized by the Irish Echo in their Labor 50 edition and this year, 2013, Jack was name Irishman of the Year at the Great Irish Fair in Coney Island. Jack is married to his wife Susan for 30 years and they have three children: Corey, Michael, and Taryn. The Ahern family attends Our Lady of Hope Church in Carle Place, NY.
