Allison Burke – Westchester Aide to the Grand Marshal

 Allison Burke was raised in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx where she resided with her parents, Eileen and Don Mosher, and her three siblings, Donny, Michele and Stephen. Ms. Burke’s maternal great-grandmother was from County Clare and emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900’s. Her maternal great grandfather and great-great grandparents also emigrated from Ireland to the U.S. Her grandfather, Joseph McPartland, served as an NYPD police officer for approximately 32 years and sang in the NYPD Glee Club as a tenor. Ms. Burke moved to Yonkers in 2009 where she has been an active member of the community.
Ms. Burke has worked as an Assistant County Attorney in the Westchester County Attorney’s office for the past nine years. Ms. Burke has practiced in the Family Court Bureau representing the Commissioner of Social Services in child abuse and neglect, termination of parental rights and custody proceedings as well as the Appeals, Legislation and Opinions Bureau where she has performed extensive legal research and drafted appeals and opinions on a variety of substantive topics. Ms. Burke has also handled matters in the Litigation Bureau as needed.
Ms. Burke obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Pace University. She then pursued a Juris Doctorate from Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University where she was a Notes and Comments Editor on the Hofstra Law Review and served as President of Hofstra Law Women. As a practitioner, Ms. Burke wrote an article which was published in the Hofstra Law Review in 2014.
Ms. Burke also holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education which she obtained from
CUNY – Lehman College. Ms. Burke taught seventh and eighth grade students at Our Lady of Mercy school in the Bronx for several years before transitioning to teaching in an undergraduate setting.
Prior to joining the Westchester County Attorney’s Office, Ms. Burke worked as an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice Department at Monroe College teaching legal courses on site and online. Additionally, she was the Job and Internship Coordinator for students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program. Ms. Burke has also taught legal courses as an adjunct Professor at Iona College.
Ms. Burke is the former co-chair of the Education Law Committee of the Westchester County Bar Association. In 2016, she spoke on a panel at the Bravehearts Summit educating foster youth and professionals about the legal rights of youth in foster care.

Ms. Burke has participated in many forms of community service both within Westchester County and beyond. She is currently the President of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 19, Yonkers, and a board member of the American Irish Association of Westchester. She is a volunteer with the Sisters of Life assisting single, expectant mothers with obtaining employment and providing them mentoring and friendship. She has raised money for causes such as My Brother Vinny, a non-profit organization that assists local veterans, and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides event. In 2013, Ms. Burke organized a project to collect and ship new clothing to children at Dulce Refugio, an orphanage in Mexico.
In 2014, Ms. Burke was an aide to the Grand Marshal in the Yonkers Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on McLean Avenue. She also received a “Rising Alumnae under 40” award in 2013 from Preston High School in the Bronx where she graduated in 1996. In October 2017, Ms. Burke was the recipient of the Irish Woman of the Year Award from the Irish American Association of Westchester.

Ms. Burke’s most important role has been as a mother to her two year-old son, Eoin Burke, who is the ongoing inspiration for all of her hard work and dedication. Ms. Burke is also the proud aunt of three nephews, Joseph, Matthew and Michael, and two nieces, Madeline and Alanna.
