Aide to The Grand Marshal

ANDREW K. BRESLIN

Andrew Breslin was born in Virginia, County Cavan, and raised in Kells, County Meath, where his parents, Michael and Eileen, owned a FIAT main dealership, Murray & Breslin.  Andy immigrated to New York City in 1981, where he began working as a bartender, marking the start of a long and successful career in hospitality.  He credits much of his early professional development to his time working for John Mahon of County Longford, a fellow Knight, whose mentorship helped propel him into business ownership.  Andy now owns several well-known Manhattan restaurants and bars, including Banc Café, Red Lion, Tara Mor, Tara Rose, The Ellington, and The Ellington in Riverside Park (seasonal).  His first major success came with Sidetracks in Sunnyside, Queens, a landmark establishment during the large waves of Irish emigration in the 1980s and 1990s.  Andy and his brothers, Michael and John, were also owners of Atlantic, one of the largest scaffold companies in North America, now known as Safway-Atlantic Group.  Andy is married to Caroline Johnston, and they are the proud parents of three daughters, Keelagh, Charlotte, and Emma. After many years living in Manhattan, Andy and his family now reside in St Luke’s Parish in Westport, Connecticut.  For nearly 30 years, Andy has been a dedicated supporter of the Irish Arts Center, where he serves on the Board of Directors.  He remains deeply committed to its mission and encourages all to visit the Center’s home at 726 11th Avenue at 51st Street.  Andy is also a supporter of the work of Fr. Patrick Devane in West Africa, where the SHALOM organization focuses on conflict resolution and peace building.  He and his eldest daughter, Keelagh, visited Fr. Devane’s work firsthand, an experience he describes as “truly God’s work.”  Andy and his family were supportive in the founding of the New York Irish Center on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, Queens, alongside the late Paddy Reilly.  He holds fond memories of Paddy and the journey of acquiring that building.  Andy is honored to serve as an Aide to Grand Marshal Bob McCann, Chairman of the Board of the Irish Arts Center, and is proud to support a leader so deeply committed to Irish culture.
