Aide to The Grand Marshal

KEVIN G. SHERLOCK

Kevin Gerard was born in Queens to Irish immigrant parents, Ann T. (née Honan), from Baltard, Co. Clare and Thomas Sherlock, from Doo Castle, Co. Mayo.  Kevin grew up alongside his two siblings, Geralyn DeMayo and Thomas Sherlock.  Kevin attended grade school at St. Mary Help of Christians before continuing his education at Christ the King High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York and later obtained a Master of Public Administration from Marist College. Additionally, he completed a certification in Child Protection at Harvard University and is a certified police instructor in New York State.  Kevin dedicated thirty-three years to the NYPD, beginning his service on January 21, 1985.  He advanced through various bureaus and was promoted to Lieutenant.  In 2003, he became the Commanding Officer of the 25th Detective Squad, in East Harlem.  His exemplary leadership and professionalism led to his promotion to Lieutenant Commander of Detectives in 2006.  In his final role, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Citywide Missing Person Squad within the Special Investigations Division, overseeing critical investigations across New York City. Kevin retired from the NYPD on November 28, 2018.  Deeply involved in professional, fraternal, and Irish-American organizations, Kevin served as President of the NYPD Holy Name Society for Manhattan, Bronx, and Staten Island. He is a member and former delegate of the NYPD Emerald Society and is affiliated with the Police Anchor Club, the Knights of Columbus George W. Hudson Council, and the Fraternal Order of Police Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial Lodge #704.  Kevin resides in Kent, New York, in Putnam County, with his wife, Sheila (née Tierney), who is originally from Woodside, Queens.  Sheila’s parents, Gerald and Ann (née Reilly) Tierney, were born in Ballyhaise and Cootehill in County Cavan. and are the proud parents of two daughters, Brenna Marie and Annie Caiteriona.  A proud Irish American, Kevin has made more than twenty trips to Ireland, spending summers working on family farms. He enjoys Irish plays, musicals and concerts throughout the metropolitan area and actively participates in Irish music sessions where he enjoys singing.  Kevin has been a dedicated participant in the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade since childhood.  He is a parishioner at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel and has represented the Holy Name Society at Parade Committee meetings. He has also contributed significantly to the preparation and success of this cherished annual celebration.
