Peter was born in Yonkers, New York to William and Bridie Van Slyck. He has six brothers and sisters, Mary Jane, Denise, Patty, William, James and Kimberly. Peter attended St. Peter’s Grammar School in Yonkers and Yonkers High School. Peter’s Irish lineage is through his mother, Bridget Philomena Walsh-Van Slyck, born in Oughterard, Connemara, County Galway and his paternal grandmother Mary O’Brien-Van Slyck, born in Kiltimagh, County Mayo. After graduating from the Westchester Police Academy in December of 2000, Peter was assigned to the 4th Precinct on Shonnard Place. In 2005, Peter was assigned to the prestigious Special Operations Division where he proudly served as a Motorcycle Officer for over 15-years, becoming one of the longest serving officers in the history of that storied unit. Peter is now retired from the Yonkers Police Department where he proudly served for 21-years, and is presently working as a consultant for the Municipal Housing Authority in Yonkers. Peter has been a member of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester for over 22-years and served as President for an unprecedented 5-terms. He currently serves as the Sergeant-at-Arms. For the last 20 years, Peter is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 9, Westchester County and serves as the Sergeant-at-Arms. For over 20 years, Peter is a proud member of Myles Scully AOH Division One Yonkers.. Peter is also a proud member of Lakers AC in Yonkers and the Yorktown Elks Lodge, 2324. Peter married the love of his life and best friend, Margaret on June 11, 2005, They presently reside in Ossining and are parishioners of St. Augustine Church.
