Westchester County Aide – Ancient Order of Hibernians

Ellis-2Kevin Ellis traces his Irish heritage to his grandparents, who emigrated from Counties Mayo, Kerry, Tipperary and Kildare.  His maternal grandfather, Mike Doughan, was a player and manager for the New York Tipperary Hurling Team and a friend of the 1983 NYC St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshal Michael Flannery.

Kevin was born in the Bainbridge Avenue section of the Bronx before moving to Yonkers.  He graduated from Iona Prep and SUNY Westchester Community College where he studied communications and broadcasting.

Kevin started his career as an On Air Announcer and Assistant Broadcast Engineer at WFAS AM/FM in White Plains before joining Verizon as a Special Services Technician for ABC Television and ABC Radio Networks. He transferred to the Verizon Emergency Communications Team, and began work on building the largest E911 answering center in the world for The City of New York. This project involved combining the NYPD, FDNY and EMS call answering and dispatch services in one combined center.  Kevin continues to work for Verizon at the NYC Public Service Answering Center in Brooklyn which receives nearly 20 million emergency calls a year. Kevin is a proud member of The Communications Workers of America Local 1101, where he has served as a shop steward.

Kevin is the President of the AOH Myles Scully Division #1 in Yonkers, Vice President of The AOH Westchester County Board, and serves on the AOH New York State Board as co-director of internet communications. He was named Yonkers Hibernian of the Year in 2011.

In 2009, Kevin founded the (NYC) Firefighter Sean Tallon Tournament dedicated to the memory of the Yonkers native who lost his life on September 11, 2001. The AOH sponsors this tournament in cooperation with the NY GAA Minor Board and presently welcomes over 450 youngsters annually to compete in Gaelic Games at Gaelic Park.

He is a past Vice-Chairman and current member of The Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, and served as an Aide to the Grand Marshal of the Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2007.
