United Irish Counties Aide to the Grand Marshal

Anne is the oldest of three children born to Joseph Leavy and Mary Bridget Hughes, both from the parish of Ardagh, Co. Longford. She attended Glen National School and the Manor Secondary in Edgeworthstown. After immigrating to New York in 1961, Anne found employment with the New York Telephone as an Accounting Clerk and quickly rose through the ranks to Accounting Supervisor, Operations Manager, and eventually Staff Director responsible for large workforces in the accounting, budgets, computer, and labor relations fields. Anne has held many offices in the County Longford Association including President, Financial Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Webmaster. She has chaired several Longford dinner dances, Christmas parties, and St. Patrick’s Day events. As a Longford delegate to the United Irish Counties Association, Anne has served as Corresponding Secretary and Auditor. She has chaired UICA dinner dances and the souvenir journal, as well as reservations, Public Relations, and the Grand March. Since 2009, Anne has co-chaired the UICA annual feis. Anne was the UICA Aide to the Grand Marshal in the Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Parade in 2011. Anne is also a member of the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens and was honored as their ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2014. She is a member of LAOH Division 15 Massapequa, the Mid Island Irish American Club, the Woman’s Club of Massapequa, and the Elks.

Anne is married to Dennis, an Irish-American with roots in Fermanagh, Cork and Waterford, since 1965, and are parishioners of St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa, Long Island. Anne is honored to serve as an Aide to the Grand Marshal in 2020.
