Edward T. Cetnar was appointed the Superintendent of Police and Director of Public Safety of  the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department on May 11, 2018.  He  oversees the daily operation of the over 2300-person Police Department.  He is responsible for  the police and security services of the New York Metro area’s airports, including John F.  Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia Airport.  Additionally,  Mr. Cetnar is responsible for the Path Train System, Port Authority Bus Terminal, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, Port Newark, Brooklyn Piers, George Washington Bridge, Staten Island Bridge Crossings and the World Trade Center Complex.  Before his appointment to the Port Authority, Edward served as a Lt. Colonel in the New Jersey State Police for over 27-years where he served as Deputy Superintendent of Operations.  He has  been the Incident Commander for high-profile events such as the 2014 NFL Super Bowl, the  2014 National Special Olympics, and the 2013 and 2014 Miss America Pageants.  Additionally,  he was the Incident Commander for the largest gathering in the history of the Jewish faith, the Agudath Israel Event, held at Met Life Stadium in 2012.

He also held the Statewide Incident Commander position for search, rescue and security  operations after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Edward obtained his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Seton Hall University, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the United States Army Commandant’s 7th Strategic Studies Program.

A member of the Port Authority Police Emerald Society, Edward is proud of his Irish ancestry as a descendant of the Fitzsimmons family of County Cavan on his mother’s side.
