Joseph Murphy Jr is the son of Irish immigrants from County Cork and County Tipperary,Ireland. He attended Canterbury Prep High School New Milford Ct., and went on to graduate with B.S.B.A. in Hotel Management from University of Denver, and a Masters in Real Estate Finance from New York University. In his earlier career Joseph Co-founded a commercial mortgage conduit, Value Express LLC, which originated over $2.0 billion in
loans for the real estate capital markets. For over 30 years, he has owned and managed family real estate investments in various commercial properties throughout the United States, and is President of Value Investors, Inc., his family’s investment office. Joe served on the Board of Country Bank from 1995, a Manhattan based community bank which was acquired by OceanFirst Financial Corp in 2020. He served on the Board of Directors at County Bank Holding Company from 2003, as Executive Vice President in 1997, President in 2008, President / CEO from 2012, and chaired of the Loan and Technology Committees. Joe Murphy currently serves on the Board of Directors of OceanFirst Bank, and the OceanFirst Foundation. Joseph served on the board of Directors for the New York Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Finance Advisory Committee of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and the Board of Trustees for the Greater New York Chapter of the American Red Cross. He serves on the Community Bankers Council of the American Bankers Association, is a member of the Board of Trustees of Iona College, and a Knight of St. Patrick. Joseph is married to his wife Michele for 32 years and they are the proud parents of three grown children He resides in the Parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Scarsdale, NY, and is a member of the Finance Advisory Council.
