Spotlight: Saint Anthony’s High School – Franciscan Brothers

Celtic Friars Pipe and Drum Band – Saint Anthony’s High School

2018 – Saint Patrick’s Cathedral

Founded in September 2009, the student group has entertained audiences events throughout the Metropolitan Area. In addition, they are requested to play for Orientation, Masses, Dinner Dances, Sporting Events and Graduation Commencement.

The band plays several prestigious events. This results in Saint Anthony’s High School marching at events like The New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Inc.® for the last 6 years.

Because of its success, the band got to march in the Columbus Day parade for the third time this year.

The eighty member band sports Black and Gold Kilts and Short Plaids. Celtic Friars competes in numerous competitions culminating this summer when they won the People’s Choice Award at the Hunter Mountain Gaelic Festival.

Being that Saint Anthony’s is one of the only high schools in the Northeast to offer a full range of academic, credit-bearing courses for beginners, advanced and honors players. As a result, many students have gone on to play in college bands and some have even received scholarships with the Iona College Bagpipe Band.

In addition, this past summer, the Band traveled to Scotland to participate in the Worlds Championships in Glasgow.
